The Mt. Diablo Unified School District anticipates that all students will return to full time, in-person learning Fall of 2021, which begins August 12, 2021. However, all eligible students have the option of participating in independent study if their parent/guardian determines that the child’s health would be at risk by returning to in-person instruction.

Assembly Bill 130 also provided new guidance regarding synchronous instruction and daily live interaction for all students participating in independent study, both current and prospective. This will require changes to our current independent study program, which are outlined in the above presentation.

To help families navigate the different independent study programs and to provide more details on the models to be provided, Mt. Diablo Unified presented an Information Session on Monday, July 26, 2021 (see link posted above).

The district sent confirmation of transfers via the email provided to Virtual Academy applicants on Friday, July 23. Families must accept or decline the transfer, based on the model being offered, by August 5, 2021.

Horizons Home Study, Horizons Independent Study and Home & Hospital Instruction are still available to families if your child is eligible to participate. The updated application for Independent Study (virtual learning) is located on the Horizons Home Study and Center for Independent Study websites:
